Ágota Kristóf, also known as Kristóf Ágota, was a Hungarian writer who lived in Switzerland and wrote in French. She was born on 30 October 1935 and died on 27 July 2011. Kristóf was recognized for her contributions to literature, receiving the European prize for French literature for her work The Notebook in 1986. She also won the 2001 Gottfried Keller Award in Switzerland and the Austrian State Prize for European Literature in 2008. She was a poet, novelist, and playwright.
