Grace Livingston Hill was the daughter of a Presbyterian minister, Charles Montgomery Livingston, and his wife Marcia Macdonald Livingston, both of whom were writers. She was also the niece of Isabella Macdonald Alden, a writer. Hill wrote over 100 novels and numerous short stories, publishing under her own name and the pseudonym 'Marcia Macdonald'. Her fiction primarily featured young female protagonists, often portraying them as strong Christian women or those who develop such faith within the narrative.
