Jerry Gustave Hasford, known by his pen name Gustav Hasford, was an American Marine, novelist, journalist, and poet. He served as a war correspondent during the Vietnam War and wrote the semi-autobiographical novel The Short-Timers, which was adapted into the film Full Metal Jacket. He was a cousin of comic book writer Jason Aaron. Hasford was born in 1947 and died in 1993.
