Hans Staden

Hans Staden was a German soldier and explorer who traveled to South America in the sixteenth century, where he was captured by the Tupinambá people of Brazil. He survived captivity and returned to Europe, later writing True History: An Account of Cannibal Captivity in Brazil, in which he described the practice of cannibalism among his captors. He was also referred to as a conquistador. Staden was born in 1525 and died in 1579.
