Richard Mervyn Hare was an English moral philosopher who served as the White's Professor of Moral Philosophy at the University of Oxford from 1966 until 1983 and later taught at the University of Florida. He is best known for developing prescriptivism as a meta-ethical theory. His work focused on the formal features of moral discourse and their implications for moral reasoning.
