Harriet Elisabeth Beecher Stowe (14 June 1811 – 1 July 1896) was an American author and abolitionist. She is best known for her novel Uncle Tom's Cabin, which was published in 1852 and became a significant influence on the anti-slavery movement. Stowe was born in Connecticut and came from a family deeply involved in social reform. Throughout her life, she used her writing to address issues of morality and justice. She died in 1896.
