Helen Fielding (born 19 February 1958) is an English novelist and screenwriter. She is best known as the creator of the character Bridget Jones, the central figure in a series of novels and films. Her first book, Bridget Jones's Diary (1996), and its sequel, The Edge of Reason (1999), were published in 40 countries and sold more than 15 million copies. The film adaptations of the novels achieved international success. Bridget Jones's Diary was named one of the ten novels that best defined the 20th century in a survey by The Guardian newspaper.
