Hella S. Haasse (1918-2011) was a Dutch writer, daughter of Willem Hendrik Haasse (who wrote under the pseudonym W.H. van Eemlandt) and concert pianist Katharina Diehm Winzenhöhler. She spent parts of her childhood in the Dutch East Indies and the Netherlands, married Jan van Lelyveld in 1944, trained at the Amsterdam Toneelschool, had three daughters, and later moved to France, dying in 2011 at age 93.
