Henry Alfred Kissinger, born Heinz Alfred Kissinger (1923–2023), was an American diplomat and political scientist. He served as National Security Advisor and later concurrently as U.S. Secretary of State under presidents Nixon and Ford. He received the 1973 Nobel Peace Prize for negotiating the Vietnam ceasefire, a controversial award from which two committee members resigned in protest. After leaving office, his advice was sought by world leaders including subsequent U.S. presidents.
