Henry Mayhew

Henry Mayhew was an English journalist, playwright, and advocate of reform. He was one of the co-founders of the satirical magazine Punch in 1841 and served as its joint editor in its early years. He is known for his social research, particularly the three-volume work London Labour and the London Poor, which was compiled from newspaper articles published in the Morning Chronicle. He was born in 1812 and died in 1887.
