Hyginus Mythographus

Hyginus is the name under which two mythographic handbooks in Latin survive. One is called Genealogiae, also known as Fabulae, and the other is an astronomical-mythographic work titled De astronomia. The identity of the author remains unclear, leading scholars to refer to him as "Hyginus Mythographus." Some scholars suggest he may be identified with Gaius Iulius Hyginus, a contemporary of Emperor Augustus. However, parts of the research date the works attributed to "Hyginus," particularly the Genealogiae, to the second century CE.
