Ihara Saikaku

Ihara Saikaku was a Japanese writer known for creating the "floating world" genre of Japanese prose, also known as ukiyo-zōshi. He was born in 1642 and died in 1693. Saikaku's work focused on the pleasures and daily life of common people in Edo-period Japan. His writings provided a vivid depiction of urban culture and social customs.
