Irène Némirovsky was a French-language novelist of Russian origin. She was born in Kyiv on February 11, 1903, which corresponds to February 24 in the Gregorian calendar. She died on August 19, 1942, in Auschwitz. Némirovsky was a successful author in France during the 1930s but was largely forgotten after World War II. She is the only writer to have received the Prix Renaudot posthumously, in 2004, for her unfinished novel Suite française.
