Ishaq ibn Rahwayh was a Sunni Muslim scholar, jurist, muhaddith, exegete, and theologian. He was a close friend of Ahmad ibn Hanbal and accompanied him on travels to seek knowledge, as well as a teacher of Bukhari, who was inspired by him to compile the Sahih al-Bukhari. He was a muhaddith and Hafiz, and his only surviving work is al-Musnad, a hadith collection arranged by Companion narrators. He died in 853.
