J. R. Ward is an American author best known for creating the Black Dagger Brotherhood, a bestselling paranormal romance series centered on a vampire warrior brotherhood. Born in 1969 in Massachusetts, she holds degrees in history and art history from Smith College and a law degree from Albany Law School. She also writes contemporary romances under her legal name, Jessica Bird.
