Jacqueline Jill "Jackie" Collins was born on 4 October 1937 in London, England, UK, daughter of Elsa Bessant and Joseph William Collins. She is the younger sister of actress Joan Collins. Collins began writing as a teenager, creating steamy stories that her schoolmates paid to read. Her first book, The World is Full of Married Men, became a bestseller due to its open sexuality and discussion of the double standard. She wrote several other novels, including The Stud, Sinners, The Love Killers, The Bitch, and Hollywood Wives, which was a No. 1 New York Times bestseller and adapted into a miniseries. Some of her books were also filmed as feature films. She wrote an original movie, Yesterday's Hero. Collins was called a "raunchy moralist" and "Hollywood's own Marcel Proust." She sold over 500 million copies of her books in more than 40 countries and had twenty-eight New York Times bestsellers. She wrote about the glamorous lives of the rich and famous. She was married three times, had three daughters, and died of breast cancer on 19 September 2015 in Beverly Hills. She is buried in Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery.
