Jacques Bergier, born Yakov Mikhailovich Berger in Odessa on 21 August [O.S. 8 August] 1912, died in Paris on 23 November 1978. He was a chemical engineer, member of the French Resistance, spy, journalist, and writer. He co-wrote the best-seller The Morning of the Magicians with Louis Pauwels. The book was described as a work of "fantastic realism," a term coined by the authors.
