James R. Hansen is an American historian and professor of history at Auburn University in Alabama. He is known for his scholarly work on aerospace history. His book From the Ground Up received the History Book Award from the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics in 1988. He also authored The Wind and Beyond, a six-volume series published by NASA, which earned him the Eugene Ferguson Prize for Outstanding Reference Work from the Society for the History of Technology in 2005. His research focuses on the development of aviation and space exploration.
