Jane Bowles was an American writer and playwright. She published her only novel, Two Serious Ladies, at the age of twenty-six and later wrote a book of short stories titled Plain Pleasures and a play titled In the Summer House. In 1957 she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage that severely impaired her ability to read and write. She died in Malaga in 1973.
