Jay Anson (November 4, 1921 – March 12, 1980) was an American author best known for The Amityville Horror, a novel that was marketed as "a true story." The book was based on the experiences of George and Kathleen Lutz, who claimed to have been haunted while living at 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, New York, in December 1975. Anson acquired the rights to the Lutzes' story and expanded upon it. He later wrote 666, another novel about a haunted house. A film adaptation of The Amityville Horror was released in 1979. Anson died in 1980.
