Jim Thompson (1906-1977) was an American writer born in Anadarko, Oklahoma, son of a county sheriff. His family relocated to Texas; his first stories were published in his teens. He attended the University of Nebraska, worked as a true crime reporter, and published his first novel, Now And On Earth, in 1942. His hardboiled crime fiction, including The Killer Inside Me (1952), developed in the 1950s; he moved to Hollywood in 1955 and died at 71.
