Joan Fuster i Ortells (1922–1992) was an influential Catalan writer, considered a major author in the Valencian language. His work helped reinvigorate left-wing, pro-Catalan nationalism in Valencia during the Spanish transition to democracy. In his political essay Nosaltres, els valencians (1962) he coined the term Països Catalans to refer to the Catalan-speaking territories.
