John Burdett is a British crime novelist known for the Bangkok 8 series and its sequels. He was a former lawyer who lived and worked in Hong Kong for twelve years, initially employed by the Hong Kong Government and later in private practice. He studied English and American Literature at Warwick University, specializing in Shakespeare and metaphysical poetry, and chose law as a profession during the British economic and political crises of the 1970s. After leaving law, he pursued a career as a novelist and now splits his time between France and Bangkok, conducting research for his novels in various locations in Thailand.
