John Creasey was an English crime and science fiction writer who authored more than six hundred novels under twenty-eight different pseudonyms. He created several recurring characters, including The Toff, Commander George Gideon of Scotland Yard, Inspector Roger West, The Baron, Doctor Emmanuel Cellini, and Doctor Stanislaus Alexander Palfrey. The character of Commander George Gideon of Scotland Yard inspired the television series Gideon's Way and the 1958 film Gideon's Day. The Baron character was adapted into a 1960s television series starring Steve Forrest.
