John Fletcher (1579–1625) was an English playwright who succeeded William Shakespeare as house playwright for the King's Men. Among the most prolific and influential dramatists of his day, his fame during his lifetime and the Restoration rivalled Shakespeare's. He frequently collaborated on plays, chiefly with Francis Beaumont or Philip Massinger and also with Shakespeare, and remains an important transitional figure between the Elizabethan popular tradition and the drama of the Restoration.
