John Foxe (1516/17 – 18 April 1587) was an English historian and martyrologist. He is best known for writing Actes and Monuments, commonly referred to as Foxe's Book of Martyrs. This work documents the history of Christian martyrs, with a focus on the persecution of English Protestants and early Protestant figures from the 14th century through the reign of Mary I. The book was widely read by English Puritans and played a significant role in shaping public perception of the Catholic Church in Britain over several centuries. Foxe was a 16th-century English historian.
