Jonathan David Haidt, born October 19, 1963, is an American social psychologist and Professor of Ethical Leadership at New York University Stern School of Business. His work focuses on the psychology of morality and moral emotions. Haidt is known for developing moral foundations theory, which explains moral reasoning through innate emotional responses rather than logic. This theory has been used to explore how different political ideologies prioritize distinct moral values. He has authored three books for general audiences: The Happiness Hypothesis (2006), The Righteous Mind (2012), and The Coddling of the American Mind (2018), co-written with Greg Lukianoff. Haidt has received recognition as one of the "top global thinkers" and is among the most cited researchers in political and moral psychology.
