Walter David Jones CH (1 November 1895 – 28 October 1974) was a British painter and modernist poet. He primarily worked in watercolour, creating portraits, animal studies, landscapes, and subjects drawn from legend and religion. He also practiced wood-engraving and was an inscription painter. In 1965, Kenneth Clark named him the best living British painter. His poetry was highly regarded, with T. S. Eliot and W. H. Auden considering it among the best of its century. Jones's artistic work was deeply influenced by his Christian faith and Welsh heritage.
