José Hernández was an Argentine journalist, poet, and politician who lived from 1834 to 1886. He is best known for writing the epic poem Martín Fierro, a central work of gauchos literature. Hernández was also a military figure and worked as a journalist throughout his life. His most famous work, Martín Fierro, remains a significant contribution to Argentine literary tradition.
