Joseph Karl Benedikt Freiherr von Eichendorff was a German poet and novelist who was born in 1788 at Schloss Lubowitz near Ratibor in Upper Silesia. He died in 1857 in Neisse, also in Upper Silesia. He was associated with the later German romantic school and is recognized as a significant figure in German literature. His work primarily focused on lyrical poetry and novels.
