Kenneth Grahame was a Scottish writer best known for the children's classic The Wind in the Willows (1908). He was born in Scotland and spent his childhood in England with his grandmother after his mother's death and his father's inability to care for the children. He attended St Edward's School in Oxford but did not attend university, instead joining the Bank of England where he had a successful career. He wrote three earlier books: Pagan Papers (1893), The Golden Age (1895), and Dream Days (1898).
