Laura Kinsale grew up in a small country town influenced by her mother, grandmother, and maiden aunts. She earned a Master of Science in Geology from the University of Texas at Austin and worked as a petroleum geologist, spending time at drilling rigs and in small-town motels. During this period, she began reading extensively as a form of escapism. She later became a published author, winning awards and receiving multiple nominations.
