Laura Mancinelli (18 December 1933 – 7 July 2016) was an Italian writer, germanist, medievalist, and university professor. She is known for her 1981 historical novel I dodici abati di Challant (The Twelve Abbots of Challant) and Il miracolo di santa Odilia (The Miracle of Saint Odilia). In addition to her novels, she wrote academic texts, children's books, and essays. Mancinelli also worked as a translator, editing and translating German texts into Italian, including Nibelungenlied (1972), Tristan by Gottfried von Straßburg (1978), and Gregorius and Poor Heinrich by Hartmann von Aue (1989).
