Laurence Sterne was an Anglo-Irish novelist and Anglican cleric who lived from 1713 to 1768. He was born in Ireland and later became an English novelist, known for his works The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman and A Sentimental Journey Through France and Italy. In addition to his novels, Sterne wrote many sermons, memoirs, and was involved in local politics. He spent much of his life in England and died in London after a long struggle with consumption.
