Leon Garfield

1 standalone book

Leon Garfield was a British writer of fiction, best known for his children's historical novels, though he also wrote for adult audiences. His children's works were set primarily in the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and were influenced by Charles Dickens and Robert Louis Stevenson. He began his writing career with a pirate novel intended for adults, which was later adapted for younger readers, leading to a series of historical adventure stories featuring protagonists of humble origins. Garfield also wrote retellings of Greek myths and Shakespearean works, and in 1980 he composed an ending for Charles Dickens's unfinished novel The Mystery of Edwin Drood.
