Liu An was a Chinese monarch, philosopher, and cartographer who ruled the Huainan Kingdom during the Han dynasty. He advised Emperor Wu of Han and is known for editing the Huainanzi, a compendium of Daoist, Confucianist, and Legalist teachings. He is also credited with inventing tofu, and early texts describe him as an author-editor, a rebel who took his life, and a Daoist adept who transformed into a xian.
