Louis Aragon was a French poet and a leading figure of the surrealist movement in France. He co-founded the surrealist review Littérature with André Breton and Philippe Soupault. He was also a novelist, editor, and long-time member of the Communist Party, as well as a member of the Académie Goncourt. He was frequently nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature after 1959.
