Louis de Bernières is an English novelist. He was born in London in 1954. He studied Philosophy at the Victoria University of Manchester and later earned a postgraduate certificate in Education from Leicester Polytechnic. He also completed an MA with distinction at the University of London. Before becoming a writer, he worked in various professions, including as a landscape gardener, mechanic, officer cadet at Sandhurst, and schoolteacher in Colombia and England.
