Louis Nicolas

Louis Nicolas was a French missionary in Canada during the late 17th and early 18th century. He arrived in New France in 1664 as a Jesuit priest and remained for eleven years, during which he documented the wildlife and Native peoples of the region. He is the confirmed author of the books Histoire Naturelle des Indes Occidentales and the Grammaire algonquine, and is believed to have created the Codex canadensis. He returned to France in 1675 and died in 1682.
