Luis Martín-Santos Ribera was a Spanish psychiatrist and writer, born on 11 November 1924 in Larache, in the Spanish protectorate of Morocco, and died on 21 January 1964 in Vitoria. He is best known as the author of Tiempo de silencio (Time of Silence), a novel often cited as one of the most important Spanish works of the twentieth century. His professional background in psychiatry influenced his literary work, which is recognized for its depth and psychological insight.
