Magnus Hirschfeld was a German physician and sexologist born on 14 May 1868 in Kolberg and died on 14 May 1935 in Nice. He lived and worked in Berlin, where he conducted research on human sexuality. Hirschfeld identified as gay, socialist, and Jewish. He was a founder of the world's first gay rights movement, the Scientific-Humanitarian Committee (WhK). Hirschfeld was also described as an empiricist, emphasizing observation and evidence in his work. His contributions to sex research and advocacy for homosexual rights made him a significant figure in the early history of LGBTQ+ activism.
