Mahendranath Gupta was a disciple of Ramakrishna and a mystic who authored Sri Sri Ramakrishna Kathamrita, a Bengali classic known in English as The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna. He was an early teacher to Paramahansa Yogananda, who described him as an "Incarnation of purity" and "the greatest man of humility I ever knew." Gupta worshipped the Divine Mother in the form of Kali and reflected the wisdom of his guru in his daily life. He lived from 1854 to 1932.
