Margaret Ellis Millar (née Sturm) was an American-Canadian mystery and suspense writer. She was born in Kitchener, Ontario, and educated at the Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate Institute and the University of Toronto. She moved to the United States after marrying Kenneth Millar, who wrote under the pseudonym Ross Macdonald, and they lived in Santa Barbara, a location that inspired settings in her later novels. Her work included 27 books, short stories, screenplays, poems, radio stories, and a memoir, with two of her novels adapted for the television series Alfred Hitchcock Presents and Thriller.
