Mariano Azuela González was a Mexican writer and medical doctor who is best known for his fictional works depicting the Mexican Revolution of 1910. He wrote novels, theatrical pieces, and literary criticism, and is recognized as the first of the "novelists of the Revolution." His work influenced other Mexican novelists who wrote about social protest. He was born in 1873 and died in 1952.
