Mark Robert Bowden, born on July 17, 1951, is an American writer and journalist. He has served as The Distinguished Writer in Residence at The University of Delaware since 2013. Bowden is a contributing editor at Vanity Fair and a National Correspondent for The Atlantic. He was a staff writer for The Philadelphia Inquirer from 1979 to 2003 and has written for publications including The New Yorker, Men's Journal, The Atlantic, Sports Illustrated, and Rolling Stone. He has received multiple awards for his writing. His book Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War brought him international recognition, and the book was adapted into a 2001 film directed by Ridley Scott.
