Marvin Minsky (1927-2016) was an American cognitive scientist, philosopher, and one of the world's leading authorities in artificial intelligence, with fundamental contributions in robotics and computer-aided learning. His book Society of Mind is a basic text on intellectual structure and function. He held a BA and PhD in mathematics from Harvard and Princeton, and in 1951 built the SNARC, the first neural network simulator.
