Maulana Syed Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi, affectionately known as 'Ali Miyan,' was an Indian Islamic scholar, historian, and author who was born on 5 December 1913 in Raebareli, India. He wrote more than fifty books in Arabic, Urdu, and English, covering topics such as history, theology, and biography. He also wrote thousands of seminar papers, articles, and recorded speeches. Nadwi was a founder member of the Muslim World League (Rabita) and a member of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC), the World Supreme Council of Mosques, and the Fiqh Council of Rabita. He was a member of the Advisory Council of the Islamic University of Madinah al-Munawwarah and the Academy of Arts and Letters of Damascus. He also founded the League of the Islamic Literature in India. He was a rector of Nadwatul Ulama and president of the Academy of Islamic Research and Publications. He received the King Faisal Award in 1980 and the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah International Prize, as well as an 'Islamic Scholarship' plaque from Oxford University in 1999. He died on 31 December 1999 in Raebareli, India, at the age of 86.
