Maurice Merleau-Ponty was a French phenomenological philosopher who focused on the constitution of meaning in human experience. He wrote on topics such as perception, art, politics, and language, and was influenced by Edmund Husserl and Martin Heidegger. He was the lead editor of Les Temps modernes, a leftist magazine he established with Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir in 1945. He died in 1961.
