Miguel Delibes Setién (17 October 1920 – 12 March 2010) was a Spanish novelist, journalist, and newspaper editor associated with the Generation of '36 movement. He was a member of the Royal Spanish Academy from 1975 until his death, occupying the "e" seat. Educated in commerce, he began his career as a cartoonist and columnist before becoming the editor of the regional newspaper El Norte de Castilla. He later focused exclusively on writing novels. Delibes was known for themes related to the flora and fauna of Castile, as well as hunting and the countryside, often portraying the perspective of a city-dweller connected to rural life. He was a leading figure in post-Civil War Spanish literature, receiving numerous literary awards. His works have been adapted into plays and films, including awards at the Cannes Film Festival. He was ranked alongside Heinrich Böll and Graham Greene as a prominent Catholic writer of the second half of the twentieth century. Delibes was deeply affected by the death of his wife in 1974 and was diagnosed with colon cancer in 1998, from which he never fully recovered. He died in 2010. His most notable works include La sombra del ciprés es alargada, El camino, Diario de un cazador, Las ratas, Cinco horas con Mario, Los santos inocentes, and El hereje.
