Miles Franklin, born Stella Maria Sarah Miles Franklin, was an Australian writer and feminist best known for her autobiographical novel My Brilliant Career, published in 1901. She wrote throughout her life and achieved another major literary success with All That Swagger, published in 1936. She was committed to developing a uniquely Australian form of literature and supported writers, literary journals, and writers' organisations in pursuit of this goal. Her endowment established the Miles Franklin Award, a major literary prize in Australia.
